Welcome to our blog. I hope you find this useful and enjoyable. The idea is to be able to comment on your thoughts about the novel with the rest of the AP English 11 students. You can post comments about what you have read (only up to the assigned reading; we do not want to give anything away). There will also be specific prompts I give you periodically that you will need to post on. I hope we find this to be a useful tool as we begin to explore the world of Frankenstein.

ONE QUESTION
If you had the opportunity to ask the creature one question, what would it be?
Why is this something you would want to know from him?
Suppose Frankenstein does make you a companion. How would you react/respond if this individual decides to find her own life, instead of staying with you? Would you live with her choices, or try to make her stay with you?
The reason I ask this is because the Creature feels that if he were to have a mate, he would no longer act as a danger to society. So the possibility that the she-creature's choices could effect his behavior if they were not to his liking is interesting.
Are you aware of what a temper is? And if so, are you aware that your temper killed a young boy and burned a house down?
I would ask this because some people are unaware that they have a temper, when everyone else is aware. If the creature is unaware that he has a temper, he could hurt more things in the future.
Hello, everyone! This is a special interview for your favorite channel that you've never heard of, I exist! I'm sparkles the unicorn and this is Bobbert, the elf! Bobbert: 'sup Sparkles: Today we have a very special guest, the one, the only, the creature! Hang on to your hooves, fins, and any other sort of appendages you've got, because these hard hitting questions might blow your mind! Bobbert: your mind. Sparkles: right...... So, anyways, creature, can I call you creatch? Creature: uhhh.. Sparkles: great! So, creatch, the one question we've been wanting to know is, while we, unicorns and elves and the like Bobbert: the like Sparkles: .....have been wanting to know, we have been trying to make ourselves known for years, and we feel like in this great age of 2011, that we would be more accepted if we came out to the humans, but it's still a hot debate. Do you feel as though you would be a more accepted part in today's society than back in the 1700's? Creature: well, I.... Sparkles: sorry, but that's all we've got for today, folks! Come back tomorrow for when I interview the one, the only, the big bad wolf in his first ever interview since, "the sneeze" Bobbert: The sneeze. Sneezing. Illness. Cold. Santa. Toys. What, what? Creature: sighhh. I never get a word in edgewise. Not even with frankenstein. Stupid interviews. I'm going back to South America.
hahah all joking aside, I would like to know if someone like him would be more accepted because of how far along we have come from the 1700s, and I think it would be interesting to see. :)
I would ask the creature if he thought that there was some goodness to be had in the world. I would ask this because the creature encounters hatred and fear, but no one has ever cared about him, he has only seen the terrible things that life can produce. I feel that the creature needs to be shown compassion, and then he will feel much better about life.
I would ask the creature to just talk to me. He ovbiously doesn't get the opportunity to talk to a human any other time without being beaten or run away from (exception being Father De Lacey). But I would be curious to see what questions the Creature had for me.
I would like to ask the creature if he would truely be happy living with someone like him. It would be intresting because it is one thing to gain acceptance from someone just like you, but what I think what he really wants is respect from, what he believes, superior humans.
I would ask the creature if he feels guilty for blaming Victor Frankenstein for everything that happened. Even though, Victor abandoned the creature, it doesn't mean he was the direct cause of the creature's brutal treatments/actions. I would want to know if the creature acknowledges the fact he had a large role in what happened and that it wasn't all Victor's fault.
I would ask the creature why he so quickly changes from being compassionate and harmless to vengeful and violent. It's understandable that he feels upset because he is not accepted by human society, but it seems that he undergoes a one hundred eighty degree change in his mindset in just a short while. I would want to know why after only a couple of brief encounters with people, he decides that he will use his life to create death and destruciton instead of friendship and amiablity as he earlier professes to do.
I would ask the creature if he would rather have not been created by Frankenstein at all. I feel this question is reflective of a lot of the monester's internal conflicts within the novel. Having Frankenstein give the creature the gift of life is an incredible thing, but unfortunatly for the monster his existence is cursed by his apperance. I feel if asked, the monster would pontentially look past his major flaws and realize what an amazing chance he has been given.
I would ask the Creature what it felt like when he saw himself for the first time, and what he thought was the reason why people hated him so much before he saw himself. It would want to know if the creature started to feel more depressed about his situation because he saw how hideous he is, or if he felt more relieved because he finally understood why people were so cruel and mean to him.
If given the chance,I would ask the Creature what he plans to do after if Frankenstein creates another creature for him to be with. Where would they go, if, presumably, they went together? Where would they live? Would they try to enter in to society or just roam the land? I ask because I wonder if the Creature himself has even thougt of this, or if the desire to have another like himself overrides any thoughts of what might happen afterward.
When you strangled William, was it difficult? I received numerous strange looks during our trial for Justine when I said a fully grown woman could easily take out a young child. Would you agree with this?
What are your views on society? I ask this because I'm interested to see what someone without indoctrination of any kind (be it religious, societal, etcetera) thinks of the world people have created over time.
I would ask the creature, "If Frankenstein makes you another creature, would you be able to overcome the temptation to lash out when you become angry?" This would be interesting to know because if the creature thought that he would still get mad and not be able to control his emotions, then it would be pointless to make another creature that would be hated by society. What is the view of the world from eight feet in the air?
I have always kind of wondered what things are like being taller, and I am not just talking about how things look, but how other organisms react, is getting around easier, and if the creature runs into stuff often enough to be annoyed. It must be a far different perspective from that height, and the creature would be the one to know. Being taller, I have experienced many of the smaller heights, but I hope I wont be eight feet tall, at least tremedously tall people say they don't like being as tall. But hey, maybe the creature has a different perspective.
I would ask the creature if having a companion to be with would be the best idea because he has realized for himself that his own actions have caused negative effects and maybe having another creature like him in the world would cause double the amount of chaos for everyone else to deal with and witness.I would want to know this because it could determine if he has a matured response to his defaulted actions.
"But one as horrible as myself would not deny 'herself' to me." The impression I was given was that the creature was not only requesting a companion, but a companion with female aesthetics. My question to the creature would be this: why a woman? Perhaps all of the 'human' men this creature has encountered were cruel to him, but why think a male of its species would do the same? If anything, this other companion, male or not, would presumably feel the same as the original, and with that, respond the same, but the creature asks for a woman. Does this imply that the creature sees woman as the more gentle and compassionate of the genders, and if not, what means does the creature have behind the request?
I ask this for besides being curious on the matter, it just struck me as strange when this creature bluntly said, "herself." If this were me, I would not be so persnickety in my request for a companion, so in my interpretation, why the creature was stirred wonder in me.
I would ask the creature if he really thinks that there will ever be a place in the world for him. He's already experienced nothing but hatred, and it must be making him doubt whether or not he can really live with a society that rejects him immediately.
Andrea Ost Hour 3 I would ask the creature if he thinks that the female creature would just agree with his views and want to move to South America and do everything that he wants to do. Because Mary Shelley was instilled with woman's rights methods of thinking from her mother, if the she-creature was created it probably would want to do exactly what it wanted to do, and not what some male creature told it to do.
WHY ARE YOU SO MEAN??? quit trying to kill people, frame people, drown people, hurt blind people, ruin Victor, create another freak like you, burn down houses, exist....
I want to know the method behind the madness by dear creature.
I would ask the creature: "After everything you've experienced with humans, do you think that you will still try to be friends with them?"
I would ask this because the creature has gone through many traumatic experiences involving people and so he has a negative view of humans; however, not all people are as evil as those who treated the creature so badly. So I would like to know if he would give people another chance to be kind.
I would ask the creature about the way which he views humans.
I would want to know if the creature views humans as the same as him, only different looking or if he thinks of humans as a different species from himself.
I would ask this because when the creature says that he will follow Frankenstein where ever he goes, and it seems like it would get a little boring to stalk someone day and night. I'm curious as to if he does other things and when he does them.
I would ask him what he thinks being human means, or what the one characteristic all human beings share.
The creature wants to be accepted by humans even though they treat him terribly, and yet he still thinks being accepted by mankind is an important thing to fulfill his life. So why does he want to be human? what does he think it means to be "human" or to really live?
If you could pick a name for yourself what would it be and why?
I would ask this because Victor Frankenstein never named him, and it would be interesting to get his perspective on what he thought would be an appropriate name for himself.
I would want to know this because he has burned his hand and the creature has been shot, yet he doesn't show any pain. Up to this point the creature is only hurt emotionally and I'm curious to know that if Victor decided to kill the creature whether or not it would be possible. I also wonder if the creature has blood, but this is just a story so it is not that important.
"Is it uncomfortable to have some of your muscles and such uncovered by skin?"
I would ask this because I find it very disturbing that he is not completely covered by skin. It seems like that wouldn't be very comfortable, and, since I do have all of my skin, it would be interesting to ask someone who didn't how it felt to have those things exposed. I'm just curious how that would feel.
Why aren't you able to find a girlfriend/wife for yourself? I would ask this because he met the elder De Lacey who was blind and didn't care about his appearance because the eldest De Lacey couldn't see how gross he looked. If the creature really wanted a wife, then why didn't he just go find a blind woman?
I would ask the creature, that what if he is unable to get what he wants, what will he do then?
I would ask this because it is more than likely that the creature will not get what he wants because Frankenstein seems to be unable to do what he wants. I think that if the creature is faced with reality he might be able to except reality and stop moping around saying how awful life is and how terrible it is to be hated by everyone. He should educate himself more on the way that man works, and he should keep trying to find a way to get at least one human person to enjoy him for who is. I have faith in man kind and I know that there are kind souls on the earth that would look past his features and except him. I know that everyone would probably be frightened by him at first, but there must be some solution to the predicament that he is in. When this question is asked, maybe he will come to reason with his circumstance and find that what he wants may never happen.
i would ask this because it would be so interesting to see how a mind that has a bunch of brains combined thinks. I bet that if he put it to use he'd be the smartest dude...ever.
I would ask this question because, in all of his alone time, the creature has probably put some thought into a name for himself and would probably have an interesting answer. Also, it's monotonous to read about something known only as "the creature."
I would ask, "If you could have one friend in this world, what would that friend be like?"
I would want to ask the creature this question because he has such a desire for a friend, but never in his life has he had one. He must imagine what it would be like to have a friend, so I was wondering what qualities he would look for.
I want to know this because he's made from many different people who could have been many ethnicities themselves. Also, movies about him have shown that he is sort of green-skinned, so I want to know what race results in green skin. Greenland? Maybe.
I would ask the creature if he had any previous memories in his brain that he doesnt remember living. Because he has a fully developed brain, it might have memories about a previous life. He shows knowledge beyond his years in some areas like knowing how to frame justine so he does have a little background knowledge but he didnt know how to write so i wonder how much he actually does know and how much he is getting from his brain of the living man before him.
Dylan Plachta 3rd Why do you seek anger and agresso as your means of achieveing your wants? I ask this because i feel these attributes are not sucessful ways of achieving wants
I would ask the creature if his mind has any recollection of the past events the body parts from humans he is made of participated in. I would ask this because I feel maybe that is what forms his compassionate ways.
why dont you get sick? you have a lot of open flesh and got shot in the shoulder! how do you not get infected? i ask becauser it doesnt make anysense that he has an immune systme if he doesnt have blood...
I would ask the creature if he can feel physical pain. I would ask him this because he has been hurt numerous times, like being shot, and hasn’t shown any signs of actually “feeling” hurt.
I would ask him why he is so crazy? If he knows so much about humans and will him make him happy, I want to know why he's so prone to doing stupid things like killing children. I would like to know his justification and whether he would compare himself to humans or not.
I would ask the Creature why he considers himself ugly. He has a clean, fresh mind and has the chance to create his own concept of what beauty is. Maybe the townspeople dislike him because he smells..or they hate new people. The creature wouldnt know. He is too quick to assume.
Katelyn Waters 3rd hour If you didn't have such intense anger problems, and didn't spend your time killing people and such. . .what would you want to do with your life? Would you pursue a "career"?
To the creature; what will become of you after you fulfill your needs for revenge on Frankenstein?
I ask this because I am sure that there are only a handful of people that the monster could murder before he has killed everyone who holds a significant spot in Frankenstein's heart. After that, will he seek a peaceful life? Or will he continue with his savage acts of revenge against mankind?
I would ask the creature whether or not he thinks he can handle a wife. Due to his temper that he may or may not be aware of, his opinions could make a large impact on his relationship.
I would ask him what his favorite color is. Why? Because it would be the only question to ask that wouldn't make him want to pick me up and launch me into a wall. No one gets upset over their favorite color. It's logical.
I would ask the creature if he knows that by putting the locket into Justine's pocket in the barn, it caused a huge piece of evidence against her that eventually brought her to death by the jury.
I am curious to know if he realizes that he technically murdered Justine from this action and if he feels any guilt towards her death?
Rachel Heib 3rd hour Why are you so dramatic?? Yeah, I guess having a ton of people reject you could make you feel resentful towards mankind, but seriously you don't have to freak out on everyone. I would ask him this because he needs to be put in his place, and know that he's never going to get friends with a crappy attitude.
I would ask the creature how he would like the female creature designed.
I would ask this because he hasn't seemed to think this through. He may dislike the female if he does not tell Frankenstein which qualities to create her with.
I think it would be funny first of all, just to see the creature singing but I would also be curious because sometimes the most unexpected people can sing very well. Singing might also help calm him down, because music usually has a positive effect on people unless it is scary demonic music or something. And it would be interesting to see how he would choose to sing (the mood of his song or the words he chooses).
If I could ask the creature one question, I would ask him "Do you remember anything from before you were created?" After all, he was put together with human body parts, which would include his brain. In class, we decided that he could learn language so quickly because he already "knew" it, and was simply re-learning it. I am just curious to know if he could somehow tap into the brain and remember the experiences/memories/knowledge from the former owner.
I would ask the creature if he thinks he can ever be truely happy.
He wants a female creature created so he can have a companion but I want to know if he thinks that that will really solve his problem because people in society would still treat him badly.

I ask this because i feel these attributes are not sucessful ways of achieving wants

I would ask the creature if his mind has any recollection of the past events the body parts from humans he is made of participated in. I would ask this because I feel maybe that is what forms his compassionate ways.

ReplyDeletewhy dont you get sick? you have a lot of open flesh and got shot in the shoulder! how do you not get infected?
i ask becauser it doesnt make anysense that he has an immune systme if he doesnt have blood...
I would ask the creature if he can feel physical pain. I would ask him this because he has been hurt numerous times, like being shot, and hasn’t shown any signs of actually “feeling” hurt.
ReplyDeleteI would ask him why he is so crazy? If he knows so much about humans and will him make him happy, I want to know why he's so prone to doing stupid things like killing children. I would like to know his justification and whether he would compare himself to humans or not.

I would ask the Creature why he considers himself ugly. He has a clean, fresh mind and has the chance to create his own concept of what beauty is. Maybe the townspeople dislike him because he smells..or they hate new people. The creature wouldnt know. He is too quick to assume.

If you didn't have such intense anger problems, and didn't spend your time killing people and such. . .what would you want to do with your life?

ReplyDeleteOh crap. That comment up there should also have the name Erin Ritchie and the hour 3.

I would ask the creature if he knows that by putting the locket into Justine's pocket in the barn, it caused a huge piece of evidence against her that eventually brought her to death by the jury.
I am curious to know if he realizes that he technically murdered Justine from this action and if he feels any guilt towards her death?

ReplyDeleteI would ask the creature what qualities and characteristics he would want in the female creature that he asked frankenstein to create.

ReplyDeleteWhy are you so dramatic?? Yeah, I guess having a ton of people reject you could make you feel resentful towards mankind, but seriously you don't have to freak out on everyone.
I would ask him this because he needs to be put in his place, and know that he's never going to get friends with a crappy attitude.

I would ask the creature how he would like the female creature designed.
I would ask this because he hasn't seemed to think this through. He may dislike the female if he does not tell Frankenstein which qualities to create her with.

I would ask the creature if he could sing.

If I could ask the creature one question, I would ask him "Do you remember anything from before you were created?"
After all, he was put together with human body parts, which would include his brain. In class, we decided that he could learn language so quickly because he already "knew" it, and was simply re-learning it. I am just curious to know if he could somehow tap into the brain and remember the experiences/memories/knowledge from the former owner.

I would ask the creature if he thinks that he is able to die.
The reason I ask this is because I don't think anyone would every really want to live forever, especially not the life that the creature lives.

"With all you've learned, what, in your mind, would make the world a perfect place?"
I'm assuming he'd mention something along the lines of "Value over appearance," but it's nice to make sure..

I would ask the creature if he thinks he can ever be truely happy.
He wants a female creature created so he can have a companion but I want to know if he thinks that that will really solve his problem because people in society would still treat him badly.
